Addressing multiple STEM learning goals together in integrated, cross curriculum projects.
The goal of this joint Intuyu-CLWB workshop is to show how subjects and topics from across the curriculum can be integrated into highly engaging and impactful projects.
The workshop is for secondary and upper primary teachers and senior leaders, especially those who’s responsibilities include STEM.
The workshop will focus on different types of integrated STEM projects. for example, we’ll explore ZEP Island*, an educational game based on building a model sustainable community for “ZEPs” – ‘Zero Emissions People’. The game is an open-ended design challenge, and offers a flexible ‘container’ for a wide range of learning experiences. ZEP Island* covers Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Digital Technologies, and Design Technologies from upper Primary and Middle School to Secondary.
In the workshop we will also explore “Extreme Measures”, a set of proctical activities around measurement – from the smallest to the biggest imaginable quantities.
KEY ACTIVITIES INCLUDE
- Using Design thinking to solve STEM problems
- Building solutions that include electronics, sensors and coding
- Fun measuring activities – e.g., how can you ‘quantify your school’?
